The twelve signs
From Urania's Mirror, the hand-coloured star atlas engraved in London in 1824.
How a chart is read
The planets
Ten bodies, from the Sun and Moon to Pluto. Each is a part of you: the Sun your identity, the Moon your needs, Venus your loves, Mars your drive, Saturn your lessons.
The signs
Twelve sections of the sky the planets travel through. A planet's sign is the style in which it works: Mars in Aries acts boldly, Mars in Libra negotiates.
The houses
Twelve divisions of the sky around your birthplace at your birth time: the areas of life where each planet works, from self and money to love, career and the spirit.
The Ascendant
The sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth: your manner, your body and the way the world meets you first. It changes every two hours, so it needs your birth time.
The Midheaven
The highest point of the chart: your calling and public life.
Aspects
The angles between planets: harmonious trines and sextiles, challenging squares and oppositions, and the fusion of conjunctions.
Transits
The planets keep moving after you are born. As they cross the points of your chart, they mark the seasons of your life.
The Saturn return
Around 29, 58 and 87, Saturn comes back to where it stood when you were born: one of life's great turning points.
The planets of a chart: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, with the lunar nodes, Lilith and the Part of Fortune.
Questions
Is it free?
The questionnaire and your preview, with your Sun sign, are free. The full chart reading is an optional one-off purchase, with no subscription.
Why do you need my birth time and place?
The planets' signs depend on the date, but the rising sign and the houses depend on the exact time and place: they turn through the whole zodiac every day. If you do not know your time, we read everything else.
How accurate is it?
Positions are calculated astronomically to well under a minute of arc, for your exact moment, with the historical time-zone rules of your birthplace. We use the tropical zodiac and Placidus houses, the standard in Western astrology.
Can I make one for someone else?
Yes. Choose who it is for at the start, and the reading is written for them.
